The Mines & Tunnels

The Down Deep dig where Lukas hides - and where the Pact's ban on horizontal digging suddenly matters.

Updated through S3E6

The mines are the silo's deepest resource dig, also used as exile and punishment - people sent there are not expected to return. S3E3 turns them into geography that threatens the whole system: the Pact forbids digging horizontally, and when it looks like Lukas may be tunnelling laterally toward another silo, the Algorithm reacts with alarm and Camille floods the mines with poison gas.

What's confirmed in canon
S3E3Lukas is revealed hiding in the mines; his suspected horizontal digging toward another silo is what alarms the Algorithm.
S3E3Camille orders the mines flooded with poison gas without warning; Juliette is caught in the fumigation and saved by Lukas.
S3E3The Pact's ban on horizontal digging is foregrounded - lateral contact between silos would trip the Safeguard.
S3E4The Digger Void becomes the heart of the current-timeline conspiracy: Bernard is found alive and hidden there, and fans read it as an Algorithm blind spot - outside cameras and surveillance - fed by the missing-supplies cluster (rebar, lamps, medical). Orla Kent's body was dumped in a closed-off tunnel nearby.
S3E6A concrete logistics tell surfaces: mining figures under Ed Harwood appear to move from the Mines to Supply in ~ten minutes, impossible via the main stairs - the strongest evidence yet for secret tunnels, old lifts or smuggling passages running out of the mining operation, and the missing light bulbs may be feeding a hidden farm or settlement rather than only tunnels.
Where the community lands

Fans read the mines as more than mineral extraction - exile, containment, and possibly a route the silos are physically close enough to connect. The Pact's ban on lateral digging is treated as the tell: the founders do not want residents discovering how near the neighbouring silos, pipes, or Safeguard machinery really are.

Q1What is the hidden route out of the Mines - tunnels, a hidden lift, or manipulated surveillance?
Q2Are the stolen light bulbs supporting a hidden farm or settlement inside Silo 18?
Q3Is Ed Harwood running the route, or being scapegoated?
