The Mines & Tunnels
The Down Deep dig where Lukas hides - and where the Pact's ban on horizontal digging suddenly matters.
The mines are the silo's deepest resource dig, also used as exile and punishment - people sent there are not expected to return. S3E3 turns them into geography that threatens the whole system: the Pact forbids digging horizontally, and when it looks like Lukas may be tunnelling laterally toward another silo, the Algorithm reacts with alarm and Camille floods the mines with poison gas.
Fans read the mines as more than mineral extraction - exile, containment, and possibly a route the silos are physically close enough to connect. The Pact's ban on lateral digging is treated as the tell: the founders do not want residents discovering how near the neighbouring silos, pipes, or Safeguard machinery really are.
