The Airlock Spray
The mist sprayed in the airlock before a cleaner exits - possibly the thing that actually kills them.
Every cleaning begins in the airlock: a spray, then fire once the outer door is used. S3E9 "Farewell" - Bernard's airlock exit - puts the spray and the fire sequence at the centre of the cleaning-death question, treating them as deliberate visual evidence rather than set dressing.
The airlock spray has been upgraded from a background detail to a high-priority suspect: fans argue it poisons the cleaner directly, and the fire burns the contaminant off before the door is re-opened. A current thread notes the spray is visible even in Allison's early cleaning. But it is not the whole answer - the creepy dark "breeze" outside (possibly the "wind" Solo described killing Silo 17) may be a separate layer that kills mass exits, while the spray kills individual cleaners.
