The Overtime Contingency (OTC) is a rarely-used protocol that activates a person's innie consciousness outside the severed floor. In the Season 1 finale, the MDR innies use a hacked version to wake in their outies' lives for a few desperate minutes and tell the world what's happening.

S1E10The innies use their stolen minutes to expose Lumon before the contingency is cut off.
