Per the Compliance Handbook he had a twin brother, Dieter. Long dead, he is worshipped throughout Lumon like a saint.

Every Lumon mystery leads back to Kier. Fans theorize the company's true goal is his resurrection or perpetuation — that severance, the numbers, the goats and Cold Harbor all serve an "eternal Kier". His preserved influence may be more literal than metaphorical.
