Cold Harbor
Gemma's final testing-floor file — Lumon's proof that severance can cut a person off from any pain.
"Cold Harbor" is the name of Gemma's last and most important test, and the file Mark refines in MDR. In the Cold Harbor room, Gemma is asked to dismantle the crib she and Mark bought for the baby they lost — and feels nothing. It is Lumon's demonstration that a severed self can be severed even from its deepest trauma.
Cold Harbor is the culmination of Kier's "war against pain": if Lumon can sever someone from grief itself, it believes it has conquered suffering — and, fans theorize, death. Completing it is presented as a threshold that unlocks Lumon's true endgame.
