Curse Mechanics
The known and theorised rules of the Warren curse. Confirmed rules are canon; theorised rules are community interpretation.
Life for a life
The pact requires continuous human sacrifice. If sacrifices stop, "the terrors only deepen."
Bloodline binding
The curse persists as long as Warren descendants are alive. Killing Richard himself changed nothing.
Dead Zone boundary
Native-born islanders cannot cross the maritime boundary without catastrophic physiological breakdown - strokes, blindness, cellular death.
Mushroom interface
Truesight mushrooms (native only to Widow's Bay) enable communication with the entity. They are the mechanism that sealed the original pact.
Entity is non-negotiable
The entity does not negotiate. It demanded its terms and enforces them mechanically, without mercy or appeal.
Tourist arrival amplifies
Bringing outsiders to the island triggers escalation of supernatural activity.
Time distortion zones
Some island locations operate outside normal time - the Captain's Suite at the Breakwater Inn is confirmed. Shep Clark's age discrepancy (37 vs. ~70) is evidence.
Note
All curse mechanics are subject to revision as Season 2 reveals more. Confirmed rules are based on explicit on-screen evidence from Season 1. Theorised rules are inferred from fan analysis.
