Clues & Evidence

The pilot's cold open shows a masked, antlered figure driving a fleeing girl onto sharpened stakes in a pit, then the team eating her. For three seasons the victim's identity was the show's central puzzle. The S3 finale, 'Full Circle', catches the wilderness timeline up to that hunt and reveals it.

The faceless figure in the antler crown who presides over the hunt in the pilot has been the fandom's biggest identity question, Lottie was the obvious guess, given her visions and following. The finale names someone else.

Adult Lottie is found dead at the foot of a staircase early in the present-day timeline; the season treats it as a possible murder tied to the group's reunion. The killer is revealed in the finale.

A digital audio tape left at Shauna's house drives the present-day plot, a recording from the woods that someone is using to torment the survivors.

S3 introduces a mysterious adult woman circling the survivors. Her identity, and how she is alive, is a season-long mystery.

Coach Ben Scott, the team's only adult, burns down the cabin in the S2 finale and flees. His fate hangs over S3 as the group hunts him.

The show's core ambiguity: is there a real force in the woods ('It', 'the Wilderness') answering the rituals, or is it collective trauma, starvation, and belief? Every 'sign' has a mundane and a mystical reading.

A crooked, antler-like symbol recurs across both timelines, carved on a tree at the crash site, scratched by survivors, tattooed decades later. Its origin is never explained.

Multiple survivors share imagery, a cave, a hanging man with no eyes, a figure in the trees. Whether these are prophecy, shared hallucination, or a real place is unresolved.

The present-day timeline confirms only a handful of survivors (Shauna, Taissa, Natalie, Misty, Van, Lottie, Travis). Many teens seen alive in the wilderness are unaccounted for, the gap between the wilderness roster and the rescue is the series' final mystery, and the load-bearing question for the final season.
